An easy example - why not play your current race's diplomacy music at the start of a new game?
I suggest comparing and contrasting to (obviously) Master of Orion 2 or Civ5 for examples of game music done well. At this stage of development it may already be too late. I absolutely beg the developers of this game to add more diversity and depth to the game's soundtrack, and deeply hope this is already being looked into before it is too late. Beautiful as it may be on the first listen, I am growing to resent it, and I've played a mere 10 hours so far. It feels like I'm listening to the same 4 minute song over and over again when playing the game, even if there's actually multiple tracks, and unfortunately this time unlike Master of Orion 3 it's not exactly ambient music, it's somewhat more in-your-face and orchestral. I have turned the sound up to listen to them - particularly fond of the Mrrshan music. It does sound like there are individual pieces for each race during diplomacy but they seem to have their relative volumes set so low that I can't properly hear them.
Currently the game has a very limited offering of music, for both the main screens and tactical combat screens. Unfortunately I see this repetitiveness problem being matched in MoO: CTS. While it was relatively inoffensive to listen to and appropriately space-y, it got repetitive fairly quickly. However, it wasn't matched for the main screen music which was one 4 minute track if I recall correctly. I was particularly fond of the Cybernetic combat music.
I'm not sure about the original game but I am told it was also relatively well off in this department.Įven Master of Orion 3, for all its flaws, had some brilliant futuristic electronic music for each species' combat phases (pre-combat, during combat and defeat/victory).
